New Testament Assembly Barking Lodge
About Us
Barking Lodge New Testament Assembly is situated in the rural district of Barking Lodge in eastern St. Thomas. This branch was established to extend NTA’s gospel mission into the St. Thomas region and serves as a spiritual home for the local community. The congregation emphasizes prayer, fellowship, and outreach, bringing the message of Christ to residents in and around Barking Lodge.
Our History
The Barking Lodge New Testament Assembly has a rich and inspiring history rooted in faith, perseverance, and community. The church was established in February 1986 by Reverend Warren, with its humble beginnings at the Barking Lodge Primary School. Just a few months later, in October of that same year, the church moved to its current location.
Our congregation was born out of the Hampton Court Church under the leadership of Pastor Warren. After his migration, a passionate young leader, Reverend Samuel Jones, was appointed to shepherd the growing flock.
The original church building, made of slab board and zinc, was destroyed by Hurricane Gilbert. But even in the face of devastation, the faithful few remained committed. Their resilience led to the decision to rebuild—this time with a more permanent concrete structure, a testament to their enduring faith and unity.
Due to a lack of support from the New Testament Assembly at the time, the Barking Lodge Church briefly separated from the organization under Reverend Jones’ leadership. However, we later returned under the guidance of Bishop Earl Christian, Pastor Kenneth Schooler, and his wife Evangelist Schooler, all of whom have since retired.
Evangelist Wilson, who had been appointed assistant pastor to Pastor Schooler, now leads the congregation with dedication, under the supervision of Overseer R. Walker.
Over the years, Barking Lodge became known as a vibrant hub for young people. Sadly, between 2015 and 2016, the church experienced a significant migration of its youth, many of whom left to pursue education and better opportunities. The onset of COVID-19 further impacted our numbers, and like many others, we continue to navigate these challenges.
Despite the ups and downs, our foundation remains strong. The Barking Lodge New Testament Assembly continues to be a place of hope, worship, and community, dedicated to spreading the love of Christ and nurturing the next generation of believers.
